A student suffering from dyslexia can really have a difficult time not just when reading a material but also when writing. Dyslexia is a learning and reading disorder where a person experiences difficulty in reading and recognizing symbols. For dyslexic, when asked to write an essay or any academic written work, it can be a big challenge. Apart from having many spelling errors, many would experience having problems in using punctuation, spacing, reading relevant materials and structuring the essay to name a few.

But there are various ways for you to avoid these. It takes constant practice and persistence and it does not come easy.  Here are some of the easiest and effective tips in writing essays for dyslexic.

Use a Mind Map

Even if you are not suffering from dyslexia, it can already be difficult when you are just starting to create your essay. Firstly, you have to organize your thoughts and find means as to how you can present your ideas in a logical and coherent manner. For dyslexics, it gets more challenging.

To have a quality essay that is concise and easy to read, it is important to have a well-organized and structured written work. For dyslexics, this is difficult but not impossible to do. So to make it easier, you can start by drawing a mind map. The purpose of having a diagram is to make it easier for you to organize your thoughts and to structure your ideas.  Write down the essay topic and from the circles, you can list down the arguments, points and your other ideas. Having a diagram makes it more efficient for you to have a structured and an organized essay. You can subdivide the circles depending on the main points and areas you want to discuss in your essay work. Think of the arguments you want to present in your essay writing.

Writing the Introduction

Once you have your mind map, it serves as your guide when you finally start drafting your essay. In writing the introductory part, there are important things that you have to keep in mind. Since it is that part where the reader will have an idea as to what your essay will be all about, you need to catch the attention of the reader.

Using the diagram, you can now decide which main point to choose. The initial statement should be divided into two parts. The first one tackles the topic while the second part talks about the points you want to raise in your essay. In writing the introduction, find interesting information or facts that you can use to catch the attention of your readers. Depending on your writing style, you might want to state facts or have the dialogue type to make it interesting for the reader. Lastly, make sure that you finish your introduction focusing your main argument.

Building a paragraph

After finally capturing the attention of your readers with your introduction, the next step is to write informative and easy to understand paragraphs that would comprise the body and content of your essay. Using the diagram as your reference, you can make use of the ideas in the circles and write the paragraph.
Each paragraph consists of about more or less five sentences. Using the points you have listed, develop and expound them in a way as if you’re explaining it to a person. Make it direct to the point and concise. Clearly discuss the points and highlight your arguments in your work.

Ending with a Solid Conclusion

Your conclusion should be written in a manner that would give your readers a final perspective of your work. Your conclusion should contain about 3 to 4 strong sentences that showcase and emphasize the main points of your essay. Emphasize the main points that you have raised in your entire essay. Ending your essay with a solid conclusion can give a good impression to your professor and will help you earn a higher mark.

Editing and Proofreading Your Work

Dyslexics have the tendency to mix words, have spelling problems, etc. As such, it is crucial that you edit and proofread your work all over again to ensure that it is free from grammatical and spelling error. In this case, you can either do this on your own or if you are really having a hard time then you can always ask for professional help. There are many service providers specializing in editing and proofreading.

Having this type of disorder is tough especially since it affects your reading as well as your writing skills. However, it does not mean that you can no longer submit topnotch essays or other academic writing related assignments. Although you will have put in more effort compare to those who are not dyslexic, you can definitely achieve a flawless and quality essay that meets academic standards.
